F1

If you're into high-octane drama, roaring engines, and a bit of old-school grit, F1 might just be your next favorite movie. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (of Top Gun: Maverick fame), this sports drama stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 prodigy who’s pulled out of retirement to help save a struggling team—and maybe himself in the process.
The story follows Sonny as he joins APXGP, a fictional underdog F1 team on the brink of collapse. He’s not just there to race; he’s also mentoring a young, cocky rookie named Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. The dynamic between the seasoned veteran and the ambitious newcomer adds a lot of heart (and tension) to the film. Alongside them is a solid supporting cast including Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and Tobias Menzies.
What sets F1 apart is its authenticity. The film was shot during real Grand Prix weekends, with actual F1 drivers and teams making appearances. You’ll spot Lewis Hamilton (who also produced the film), Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and many more. The racing scenes are intense and beautifully shot, thanks to cutting-edge camera tech and real-world F1 circuits like Silverstone, Monza, and Spa-Francorchamps.
Hans Zimmer’s score, blending orchestral and electronic elements, adds a pulse-pounding backdrop to the action. The soundtrack also features big names like Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, and Rosé, giving the film a modern, energetic vibe.
F1 has been a box office hit, becoming the highest-grossing film of Brad Pitt’s career and a major win for Apple Studios. Critics have mostly praised it, especially for its visuals and Pitt’s performance, though some hardcore racing fans and motorsport media have pointed out a few clichés and unrealistic moments.
If you love sports dramas, underdog stories, or just want to see Brad Pitt in a racing suit, F1 delivers. It’s a crowd-pleaser with enough speed and spectacle to keep you hooked for its 156-minute runtime. However, if you're a die-hard F1 purist looking for a documentary-level portrayal of the sport, you might find some of the Hollywood touches a bit much.
In short: F1 is fast, flashy, and fun—just don’t expect it to follow every FIA regulation.
