The Conjuring: Last Rites

If you're a fan of spine-tingling supernatural horror, The Conjuring: Last Rites is one to keep on your radar. This upcoming film is the ninth installment in The Conjuring Universe and serves as a direct sequel to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Directed by Michael Chaves and written by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the movie brings back the iconic paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren for what’s being teased as their final and most terrifying case yet.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as Ed and Lorraine, the real-life couple known for their chilling investigations into the paranormal. This time, they’re joined by Mia Tomlinson as their daughter Judy and Ben Hardy as her boyfriend, Tony Spera. The cast also includes Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, Molly Cartwright, John Brotherton, and Shannon Kook as Drew.
The story is based on the Warrens' investigation of the infamous Smurl haunting, but it’s told through an original narrative co-written by James Wan, the mastermind behind the franchise. With a runtime of 135 minutes, the film promises a deep dive into the eerie and unexplained, with plenty of suspense and supernatural thrills.
Behind the scenes, the movie marks a few changes. Benjamin Wallfisch takes over scoring duties from Joseph Bishara, bringing a fresh musical tone to the franchise. Filming wrapped up in late 2024 in London, and the movie is set to hit theaters in September 2025.
This one’s definitely for horror lovers who enjoy a good scare and have followed the Warrens’ journey through the Conjuring films. If you’ve been into the previous entries, especially the darker, more intense ones, you’ll likely be all in for this final chapter. On the flip side, if jump scares and demonic hauntings aren’t your thing, or if you’re not into supernatural horror, this might not be your cup of tea.
The Conjuring: Last Rites looks like it’s aiming to close out the series with a bang—or maybe a scream. Either way, it’s shaping up to be a must-watch for fans of the genre.
