Michael Showalter crafts a sleek mystery thriller in which ghostwriter Lowen Ashleigh moves into the Crawford home to finish a bestselling author's unfinished novels and starts uncovering truths she was never meant to find. Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett make the tension crackle, and the two of you will be trading theories well past the credits. It is the kind of stylish, atmospheric puzzle that turns a date into a delicious debate.

Susanne Bier reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owens sisters, confronting a dark curse that threatens to unravel their family for good. It is a cozy, enchanting blend of romance, fantasy, and comedy, just witchy enough to feel like a shared treat. Screenings are on the fewer side this week, so settle on a plan early if you want to fall under its spell together.
